Hong Xu (徐洪)

Hailed by the New York Times as “technically brilliant, insightful musician, and seemingly limitless potential”. Hong Xu is one of the China’s most accomplished pianists in his generation.

He has performed with world-renowned conductors such as Yannick Nezét- Seguin, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Mikhail Pletnev, Sir Mark Elder, Yan Pascal Torterlier , Hans Graf , Markus Stenz, Robert Spano etc. Previous concerto appearances with London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra in Manchester, Russian National Orchestra, Orchestre Nacional de Portuguesa, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Beijing’s NCPA Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Utah Symphony Orchestra，etc.

Mr. Xu has appeared in many important recital series and venues, including Wigmore Hall, Weill Hall at the Carnegie Hall, Terrace Theater at the Kennedy Centre, Beijing’s NCPA, Taipei’s National Concert Hall, Seoul Arts Centre, etc. BBC Magazine and International Piano Quarterly has named him as one of the most promising rising stars.

A devotee of new music, Xu has premiered works by Frederic Rzewski who wrote “ Rubinstein in Berlin” for him in 2008. Since then, he has performed many American composers’ work both in China and abroad including Bolcom, Corigliano, and Rochberg.

He received early training in Wuhan Conservatory of Music with Liping Jiang, subsequently went to the United States studying with Douglas Humpherys, Jerome Lowenthal and Robert McDonald at the Eastman School of Music and the Juilliard School. During his study in the States, he won prizes at Bachauer, Hilton Head and Honens International Piano Competition.

He has been teaching at the Wuhan Conservatory of Music from 2010-2023 where he had tremendous success with his online masterclass series. He is now an Associate Professor of Piano Department at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), School of Music. He has been invited to give masterclasses at the Eastman School of Music，San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Oberlin Conservatory of Music，Trinity College London, Taipei National University of the Arts, Beijing International Music Festival &Academy, and Amalfi Coast Music and Arts Festival，Perugia Piano Festival in Italy. He also serves as the Artistic Director of the New Zealand International Piano Festival.

国际钢琴演奏家，被纽约时报称为“拥有辉煌技巧，敏锐的洞察力，并有着无限潜力的中国钢琴家!” 徐洪曾受邀与诸多世界超一流大师合作演出，如阿什肯那齐、普列特涅夫、雅尼克·奈赛·塞金、马克•艾尔德爵士，列夫斯基等。同时他也与众多中国艺术家合作演出，其中包括吕嘉、吕思清、秦立巍、王弢、李飚、傅人长、张立萍、周正中等。最近几年他曾被伦敦爱乐乐团、曼切斯特哈雷交响乐团、中国国家大剧院管弦乐团邀请在亚洲范围和英国进行巡回演出。此外他还与诸多著名乐团合作，如：英国BBC管弦乐团，俄罗斯国家交响乐团，葡萄牙国家交响乐团，美国罗切斯特爱乐乐团，犹他交响乐团，加拿大卡尔加里爱乐乐团，马其顿国家爱乐乐团，中国香港管弦乐团，北京交响乐团、深圳交响乐团，西安交响乐团。他的演奏足迹遍及国内外各大音乐演出场所：如伦敦皇家节日大厅、巴比肯中心、威格摩厅、葡萄牙圣卡洛国家大剧院、马德里卡那尔大剧院，美国肯尼迪中心、卡内基音乐厅、波士顿乔丹厅、加拿大蒙特利尔艺术中心、首尔国家艺术中心、中国国家大剧院、中山音乐堂、广州大剧院、深圳音乐厅、上海交响乐团音乐厅、人民大会堂万人厅、中国香港文化中心、中国台北两厅院等等。

在频繁的演奏之余，他在其他领域同样是业内的领军人物。2010年毕业后在武汉音乐学院钢琴系任教，学生曾多次在国际、国内重大比赛中获奖，如美国伊斯曼国际青年艺术家钢琴比赛，希尔顿海德国际青年艺术家比赛、两届央视CCTV电视大奖赛等不胜枚举。 他所主持的《徐洪武汉音乐学院网络直播公开课》在互联网平台上受到强烈的关注与欢迎。

在海外，他作为客座艺术家曾被美国伊斯曼音乐学院、奥柏林音乐学院、旧金山音乐学院、纽约大学、波士顿大学、休斯敦大学、新西兰奥克兰大学、伦敦圣三一音乐学院等高等学府邀请进行讲学演出活动。同时在夏季他任教于著名的意大利阿尔玛菲国际钢琴音乐节，佩鲁贾国际音乐节和美国加州北岸国际音乐节。在中国，他曾在西安音乐学院、星海音乐学院、浙江音乐学院、哈尔滨音乐学院、广西艺术学院、深圳艺术学校、台湾艺术大学、台南艺术大学等高校举办大师班。

徐洪还曾多次在各地举办讲座，其内容覆盖广阔：《古典主义风格》、《奏鸣曲式研究》、《舒伯特流浪者幻想曲》、《莫扎特奏鸣曲全集讲座》、《肖邦全套叙事曲讲解》、《马太钢琴演奏法》等各类题目数十场，旨在钢琴界普及音乐学类知识。在闲暇之余他作为部落格作者，多年来在微博上用文字来传递古典音乐，撰写上千篇音乐类随笔，受到广泛地阅读和传播，他始终认为音乐的普及需要音符和文字的共同努力。

徐洪少时就读于武汉音乐学院附中、后前往美国留学于伊斯曼音乐学院、茱莉亚音乐学院。求学期间曾在加拿大赫尼兹、美国吉娜巴考儿、希尔顿海德等重大国际钢琴比赛中获得大奖。 2010年他是唯一的一位获得纽约茱莉亚音乐学院最高艺术家文凭的毕业生，被校长颁发鲁宾斯坦大奖。他的老师包括蒋立平、汉弗雷斯、罗文泰尔、麦克唐纳、罗伯特杉农等诸多教授。徐洪于2010-2023年任教于武汉音乐学院钢琴系，并担任了7年的主科教研室主任，2023年10月起任教于香港中文大学（深圳）音乐学院。
